Moong Dal Khichdi Recipe


Khichdi / Khichuri in Bengali or Khichadi in Marathi. This is usually when you are sick or even had as a detox diet/Satvik Aahar. My maternal grandma says that the measure of dal and rice should be equal in case of a detox diet. This is simple effortless khichdi. There are other variations to khichadi like masala khichdi,vegetable khichdi, Gujarati khichdi with Toor dal or even mix dal khichdi.

This is a good source of carbs and proteins and I make it when I’m bent on time. Today after a crazy queue in the banks, I was exhausted and I wanted something comforting.

I had mine with papad and curd. Simple and Easy, ready under 25 minutes.


  • 1/4 cup Rice- I used Indrayani
  • Half portion -Moong Dal
  • 1/4th Portion-Split Green Gram.
  • Turmeric-1/8 tsp
  • Salt-To Taste
  • Asafoetida-1/4 tsp
  • Whole Cumin-1/2 tsp

Wash the lentils and rice. Add 1.5 cups of water. Then the other spices. Bring this to a boil
in a heavy bottom pan. Transfer to a vessel or pressure cooking container. Close the pressure cooker and after one whistle cook on low flame for 10 minutes.
